Augmented Reality

Part 1:

Using the Leo Augmented Reality app,  I placed a rat on the table in front of me and made the table look like a cobblestone street.  This type of technique could be used as method for teaching kids about different ecosystems and how the animals live.

Part 2:

I attempted to scan 2 different plants with multiple scanners.  The first scanner was comprised of a rotating base with a laser like beam.  Unfortunately the actual plant didn't pick up well on the scanner. It mostly just picked up the ceramic vessel it was in.

After this attempt failed, I decided to try a different method.  I used a different plant and scanned it using the Qlone app on my phone.  The problem was that there were too many overlapping details from the leaves that made it difficult to scan.  As you can see, the ceramic base once again was scanned pretty easily but because of the leaves it didn't result in a clean scan.

The last part of this assignment was to use an app to create an augmented reality from a picture. I used the app HP Reveal and a map of Europe to make it so that when I put my camera over Rome, Italy it showed a picture of the colosseum.  This would be really cool in a classroom if more landmarks were added all over a map of the world so that kids could explore important landmarks just by using an iPad and a map of the world or globe.
